Thurs 16th Nov

I can tell that I am absolutely addicted to fashion photography and as well street and documental photography. During the introducing tutors and their work I was especially interested in because I wanted to learn more about the process of how the art director is the liaison between client and photographer for a campaign and how as an art director you don’t just manage the look of the campaign but also the people. Subsequently, I also learnt more about the history of street photography and how it actually started out in the early stages of photography as well and that it was less spontaneous than in today’s version of street photography. However, the most genious shots in street photography are made by chance I think.

This way we started to break rules of photography to wide our understanding of the subject. I made a sequence of the photos through the rolled plastic sheets in order to make unusual light reflection and another one is to make overexposed shots more pure, sunny white  and moody. I feel I can produce some form of understandable images despite them not conforming to the conventional rules of photography. Definitely this exersise pushed my boundaries for the future work.

Mon 20th Nov-Thurs 23rd Nov

We were given a list of seven elements to collect for this project, which is 'oversized', 'exposed', 'graphic', 'shapeless', androgynous', 'black' and 'color blocking'. I had brought some garments and props from pond land. In class, we partnered up with someone who had the opposite list and style each other share the materials we both brought. I liked this way of collaborating to generate more different ideas and styles.

It was a bit difficult at first to match up as my partner didn't really bring much garments, so our outcomes aren't that 'sculptural' and 'stylish' as what I expected. At first, I had no clear direction and style I was going for when I started styling my partner, so I just experimented with the materials I brought. At the end i found that the style was very floral with the little spirit of  the Renaissance.  However, I did another shoot with her outside of class on the other day at her accommodation which is much successful. I explored new way of street style and even tried my hand in sewing that is a good experience for my future work.

I prepared my concept and did my shoot before the tutorial, so it was a little bit inconvenient to start writing a story after done work. Meantime, I had rather strait idea and it was not really hard to describe it.

My research reference point was fashion style in street photography,so i decided to make a photoshoot on Camden Town where there are always a lot of interesting dressed up people.Unfortunately on shooting day we did not meet any one, so i just different national people. The title inversion is because of the inversion and mixing up cultures. The main shot is also done using inversion in photoshop. I used the collage style again in order to line the mixing of colors, styles and images or life of modern young people society.

Using experience from our previous lesson i used plastic paper in front o the flash with long camera exposure to make shorts looks more unusual and highlight the nights bright life.

On the crit day we write a crit to other people and it was interesting useful to look at others work, but not always was really clear what the author wanted to tell. Furthermore, most of booklets weren’t in the brief context and there were not the street style at all and it made me a little embarrassed.

Monday 27 - Monday 5 December

Monday 4th December

@HEY_REILLY has came to our class and share his work and talk about his personal life to us.

His style of work is distort and reflect pop culture and to push the boundaries of what can be achieved in graphic art. Also to communicate messages visually by using found imagery with type and collage techniques. These are the basics we should learn from in order to grab audiences' attention visually.

After introducing the project Hey Reilly we created a mini version of the project we will be doing over christmas as a way of coming to understand the brief. We had to tailor our work for another pairs in order to make them specially interested and in theory willing to commit to the campaign. I worked with Melanie and basis on question we were asked people about what contentet they are interested in , we wanted to create something funny connecting to the familiar audience to make it specific, entertainment and as one interviewer said: «In the morning to make me feel get up and go to school». Thats why we chose the content about our class. We create a Foundation Fashion communication class Instagram account but in a more parodic sense so they poked fun at the school work and used student works to poke fun at things like tutorials and UCAS. Our clients both thought it was hilarious and loved it so much that we wanted it to be real. As for us, the feedback we got was positive as well as they felt that our content met their requirements and had all the elements they had wished to see from news content to design aesthetic.

Thursday 4th January

Working on a joint project with the Iranian-Danish designer Sara Kiani inspired me very much.

My patina was Jebi. Firstly we started to work separately to born good ideas and than share them and chose best solutions for the work and the outcome. Over the weekend we had to come up with some ideas and create moodboards, as well as model casting and places to of for our primary research.

Having learned the name of the designer, the clothes we will work with, I first of all found her profile in the instagram. Has learned that excites, that it is pleasant to the designer, what view of life. Carefully studied the personal website of the designer http://sarakiani.tumblr.com/, analyzed moodboards on Pinterest.

I watched all the projects in which Sara participated during the training in csm, all the collections that were presented by this designer. It was very interesting to see video demonstrations of the works http://sarakiani.dk/: how clothes look on the model in motion, what musical series was chosen, what clothes under the lights look like, what materials were used to produce the collection, how the textures of the fabrics are combined.

From this I moved on to looking into her background as it was a main topic in the Brief. Looking into both Iranian and Danish culture, objects, street style, in todays fashion.

It was rather hard to create an idea withput whatching the garment and meeting the designer, becouse we should basis on the main thing- the creator of the collection and the understanding  of there own work.

Tuesday 9th- Friday 12th and weekend

We separated our work and Jebi made the style of the clothes and make up and I was responsible for everything digital.

The the poses we had prepared and models’ own posing worked and interacted positively with garments by really showing and communicating the shape/cut.

We new from the first step that we wanted to use colorful light an chose orange to make the feeling of the sand in a desert, but very simple like Scandinavian design and in a modern remix as Sara always highlighted. I feel it worked well, because it made a good shilout and showd the fabric in its best way. The clothing was also dark the model did not became lost in the background and stand out enough.

Something I found difficult was shooting to such a tight time schedule, by the time we had everything set up we only had about 15 minutes left to shoot. This limited us to only two outfits in total and we weren’t able to have much variation in our images and make a video, because the of the flash light.

When we first started our shooting day for our moving image piece we found it funny to climb over the fence for the sake of those most unforgettable shots. I decided to make the support photoshoot to this video and this way I was satisfied with the realization of the idea complementing with own style. We worked very organizing and helped each other and our models were really brave to work undressed in a very cold weather.

While shooting the movie my idea was to make it more stong, using remixes of arabic music as a background and my frames are like in trailer(observing the place with the model short shorts tring to make a short introduction to the story). But we found a solution to our different vision of the film and Jebi gave good reasons to use calm persian music to line the contrast.

I am quite happy with the outcome of the project, though I do not particularly like the campaign film I made. The photographs I think are strong, but it shows that little set design/ styling/ lighting ideas took place. However all of the ideas we had were translated. Therefore it is up to working on the images afterward to create interesting campaign posters.

Friday 5th - Monday 8th January

We decided at once to have two models of iranir appearance  and casted three models. However, one girl could not attend the shooting so we took urgently a black one and it was a good solution. She made a better contrast in a frame, more fashion and put deeper meaning into the shoot.

After looking at both, we notice the contrast of how women were depicted as dressing liberally, showing skin, in ancient paintings versus the photographs of women in Iran now who are forced to be conservative. We then looked into the idea of a modern day Iranian women, one who fights against the strict rules of the government that forces women to be covered up. Hence, we thought about this idea of Sara’s works was a modern take on Iranian fashion as she incorporated materials, like leather/PVC, which are not usually used in Iranian fashion. Thus, we set on this idea of trying to represent a modern woman that goes against the social norms of dressing by embracing her individuality and her own skin.

Then, we share our moodboards and we found that the most interesting it will be deserted, abandoned places, thus i started researching in internet and occasionally found in Russian blogs interesting places such as old tube stations, cemetery and so on. By the meaning the most appropriate  was old factory with small desert.

Following Sara’s brief, I was rally inspired by cyber punk music, films and wanted to combine oll of them into the photoshoot and give it a great meaning. That’s why we used cyber punk postappocalitic to maintain the utopia of muslim world understanding and to show the price of the wars and the role of the women there.

Monday 15 - Wednesday 17

I found the Westminster archives interesting and enjoyed finding out about the history of mens clothing. However, I did not find the overall collection particularly inspiring in the context of the new project brief because I felt that it was very focussed on work-wear rather than fashion garments. However, I got inspired by the uniform-looking clothes and military uniforms. This way, I used this as my starting point and extend it to the Hear Make Heard project based on the concept of contemporary masculinity.

First of all the real men for me are my friends or just my citizens who protect my country. This way I wanted to introduce both the real musculinity and affect their phycology through the prism of the civil life after the war, their attitudes towards socialization and following civil norms of the appearance.

Than I started doing my research about the way to present this book and chose the newspaper poster type. In the library I found the photo book, which gave me understanding how posters could look like. This book pushed me to realise that I want my book to look more political and catching eye. I also made final plan of what is going to be included in my book. I also started experimenting with photos of people which my friend kindly sent to me.

Before we start our Hear Make Heard publication project, the workshop is very useful for us to understand more about the meaning of 'Masculinity'. We talked about the current change of menswear trend. Female models wear menswear in catwalk show and in LFWM, the garments begin to show a lotof military style both in female and male collections in 2018.

Tuesday 18- Thursday 25

Today we went to class for our group tutorial about the concept of this project with Mark.  He showed us examples of books types. We not usually give much attention how the book is bonded, but it secretly influence the way we perceive the content of the book and our opinion about it.

I had rather clear and strong idea of this project and I wanted to make my booklet printing on news paper  but I needed to make sure it works and if it not, I need to change the idea of the booklet.

I took the online interview to a familiar person of my family who participated in all actions and asked him different questions about himself. I did not want to generalize my topic to all of the people, because everybody has their own understanding of the civil life during the was, so I decided to reveal one's masculinity by the example of one person. I tried to structure questions in a way to maintain the influence of the style of life in hot spots on their daily life (and the clothes is a daily life necessity).

I kept on experimenting with illustrations and finalized a few pages. I was inspired by my research and decided to stick to one particular style for all the posters. I also started choosing a name for the book. As i wanted to make it as news paper i should use the tabloid type go the capital title, but i found it too much attention and did not use this Idea. Therefore, I tried to safe the pillar style.

I was very upset when I could not print it as I expected, because of the rush in preparing and printing portfolio for one week I did not have enough time for the book printing. Unfortunately,  I was late for printing newspaper, because it takes 3-6 days, so I had opportunity to print it as i printed and only one solution to the style were rings I used to fasten sheets and the belt for the presentation. I believe I could print it as wanted for my future use and improve the text, because it was my first time as a journalist.
